Why Irish whiskey?
The Powerful history of irish whiskey
Ireland has been home to some of the best spirits in the world, dating all the way back to the earliest spirits. In fact, the earliest known record of the existence of whiskey dates back to Clonmacnoise, Ireland, in 1405. With demand for Irish Whiskey booming over the centuries to come, by 1779 there were 1,228 distilleries operating on the island.
However, a new stringent Act was introduced by British Parliament that year, making whiskey production unfeasible through harsh taxation, and so by 1821, only 32 distilleries remained.
The renaissance
In the ‘80’s Irish Whiskey began a slow and steady resurgence, thanks to changing global consumer tastes, and major investment in overseas marketing by a few major Irish Whiskey brands. Now, since the early ’90’s, it has been enjoying the title of the fastest growing spirit in the world, with annual growth rates of 15-20%.
Sales are expected to exceed 12 million cases (its historical peak) in 2020, and 24 million by 2030.
